The dim, low-tech headlight system in your classic can make nighttime driving an exciting situation, and not in a good way. To get maximum power from halogen headlights, it is recommended to have the shortest possible distance between the power source and the bulbs. Your classic's factory wiring is not designed to handle high power halogen headlights, especially when upgrading to higher wattage. Running the power through the headlight switch is an even worse situation -- resistance in small gauge wire or in the switch will lower the output at the lamp and can cause overheating of the wires. It is very common for the circuit breaker in the headlight switch to turn your lights off at random times. Be safe! The headlight harness provided with this conversion kit draws power directly from the battery, through relays, to the halogen H-4 headlights. This harness is made with the very best high-temp chemical resistant wire, a weather resistant 30-amp fuse, and two 50-amp weather resistant relays capable of handling high-power lights with lots of margin.
Installation is a snap: mount the relays with the included screws, run the pre-harnessed wires to each headlight and one of the old headlight plugs, and replace the old sealed beams with the new reflectors and H4 bulbs.
